O.J. Simpson has weighed in on the Will Smith situation and the discourse surrounding The Slap has officially jumped the shark.
Since the actor stormed the Oscars stage to assault Chris Rock, social media has been overwhelmed with thousands of takes, some considered and some ridiculous.
Enter O.J. Simpson. The man infamously found responsible for the double murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her ex, Ron Goldman, in a civic trial decided to offer his opinion on Smith’s actions, which I’m sure Will Smith is thrilled about.
In a video posted on Twitter, Simpson did admit that what Smith did was “wrong”, but that he “understood the feeling” of wanting to slap a comedian.
Claiming that everyone – everyone? – had been asking Simpson to offer his verdict on the slapping incident, he said “it was unfortunate.”
“I think Will was wrong,” he continued. “Look, I understood the feeling. In my life, I’ve been through a lot of crap, and I was raising two young kids, and every comedian in the country had an O.J. routine, and don’t think I wouldn’t wanna slap a couple of those guys….But it’s humor.”
Simpson added that he didn’t think Rock’s initial G.I. Jane joke about Jada Pinkett Smith was “all that egregious.”

The most outrageous part of Simpson’s opinion was still to come, as he decided to compare Smith’s current situation to his conviction in 2008 for armed robbery and kidnapping.
“I know this: After what happened to me in Las Vegas, if I would have done that in front of a million people watching around the world, they would’ve given me life without,” he insisted. “I’m just sayin’.”
He’s not the only person to give their opinion on the slap this week, with Jim Carrey coming out vehemently against Smith.
“I was sickened,” Carrey told CBS. “I was sickened by the standing ovation. Hollywood is just spineless en masse and it really felt like this is a really clear indication that we aren’t the cool club anymore.”
