The cult-like following of anime smash-hit One Punch Man awoke to news they never thought they would hear. Their beloved series, and its main character Saitama will be immortalised in video game with One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows confirmed for multiple gaming platforms.

Gaming developers Bandai Namco, who were behind multiple Tekken and Dragon Ball video game titles, will be behind the One Punch Man game, and have treated us with a teaser. So far, it looks as though the game will have a similar format to the aforementioned titles, rather than a RPG or free-roam / open world explorer.

As amazing as a One Punch Man open world game would be, anyone who played Tekken 7, also published by Bandai Namco will be aware of the unlimited replay potential of the 3D fighter game format.

The video teaser also reveals players can pick fan-favourite characters to fight with, and against, including the man himself Saitama, his cyborg protégé Genos, beacon of everyday bravery Muman rider and the pesky Speed-o’-Sound Sonic. The announcement also confirms the game mode of 3 vs 3 fights, so multiplayer is confirmed…?

Other than that, the announcement has revealed very little about the game; not even a release date.

The whole point of One Punch Man is that Saitama, a regular human who achieved super-human strength through a vigorous daily routine of 100 push ups, 100 sit ups and a 10km run can destroy any foe in one punch.

Indeed, Saitama is so strong that all his hair has fallen out. This raises the question of how he will be a playable character that isn’t absolutely Over Powered.

Perhaps his only function will be non-serious fighting. Perhaps, as per the show, he’s more interested in studying his opponent’s styles rather than actually fighting them.

Or maybe we have an Odd Job / Golden Gun situation on our hands where your younger sibling will constantly pick Saitama knowing full well he’s unbeatable until mum decides that NO ONE can play as Saitama.

Since its release in October 2015, One Punch Man has gone on to become one of the most popular Anime and manga series of all time. Incredibly self-aware, bizarrely meta and wickedly funny, the show lampoons stables of the genre while also weaving an intricate story with stunning animation.

One Punch Man is currently in Season 2.
