The Bachelor host Osher Gunsberg has issued a public apology to Abbie Chatfield for an “intense lie” that he told her during at the 2019 finale of the reality show.

Abbie appeared on Matt Agnew’s season of The Bachelor and ultimately came runner up when Matt picked Chelsea McLeod to give his final rose too.

Moments before Abbie was due to find out her fate from Matt, she spoke with Osher who told her that the lead was excited to see her.

“I have lied to you, and it is the most blatant and most intense lie I have ever told,” he told Abbie on her podcast It’s A Lot. “I think probably in all of my years of reality television … When you stood in front on me in South Africa, I knew 100 per cent what was about to happen, and I lied to your face.”

Osher added, “It’s the really hard part of my job is obfuscating the truth in an incredibly emotional moment, and I looked into your eyes … [And I said] ‘He’s excited to see you!’

“I’m incredibly sorry that I lied to you in that moment, I did it for the good of the show … And for a lot of money.”

However, Abbie was quick to forgive Osher over the lie, telling him it all worked out for the best. “If I won, I wouldn’t have had this career,” she said.

Abbie was portrayed as a villain on her season of The Bachelor, and claims she was “slut shamed” for her sex-positive attitude on the show.

“I was slut shamed for humping someone on a beach and saying, ‘I want to f**k you,'” she recently said on Instagram of her time on the show.

However, after filming wrapped on The Bachelor, Abbie has managed to carve a very successful media career and went on to star in (and win) I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Outta Here Australia. She started her podcast It’s a Lot in March 2020, and moved into radio to host Hot Nights with Abbie Chatfield in January of this year. She recently wrapped filming as a judge for The Masked Singer and was named one of Australia’s top 10 media figures last month by MediaWeek.
