Matthew Mindler, best known as the child star of Our Idiot Brother, has died at the age of 19.

Mindler was reportedly found dead on the morning of August 28, just three days after he was reported as missing earlier this week after he disappeared from the campus of Millersville University, Pennsylvania, where he was a student.

He had last been seen leaving his dorm room building at around 8pm on Tuesday, August 24, and did not turn up to his classes the following day.

The actor’s family filed a missing adult report on Wednesday after they claimed that he “did not return to his room or return phone calls from his family”.

Millersville University president Daniel A Wubah later announced in a statement that Mindler had died.

“It is with a grieving heart that I let you know of the death of 19-year-old Matthew Mindler from Hellertown, Pennsylvania, a first-year student at Millersville University. A search had been underway for Matthew since Thursday after he was reported missing,” he said.

“Matthew was found deceased this morning, Saturday, August 28, in Manor Township near campus. Matthew was transported to the Lancaster County Forensic Center by the coroner for further investigation.”

No cause of death has been revealed at the time of writing.

Prior to the discovery, Millersville University had issued a plea via social media to anyone who would be able to assist in finding Matthew.

“Police are asking for help in finding 20-year-old Matthew Mindler, a first-year student from Hellertown, PA, who has been missing since Tuesday evening August 24, 2021. Matt was reported missing to University Police late last evening after he did not return to his room or return phone calls from his family,” the tweet read.

“Matt was last seen walking from his residence hall, West Villages toward the Centennial Dr. parking lot area at 8:11 p.m. Tuesday night. He was wearing a white Millersville University hooded sweatshirt with black stripes on the arm.

“Matt attended classes Monday and Tuesday but did not attend yesterday or this morning. University Police are in contact with Matt’s mother and are working with campus staff for assistance in locating Matt.”

Mindler had famously co-starred with Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks and Zooey Deschanel in 2011’s My Idiot Brother and also starred in the soap opera As the World Turn.

More recently, he starred as a character named Peter in the 2016 TV movie, Chad: An American Boy.
