While Peggy Gou might kill it on the decks across night clubs and music festivals all around the world, fashion has always been on her agenda.
The label first began manifesting pre-pandemic, when Gou was DJ’ing at an Off-White event in London. Cue Virgil Abloh and the rest is history. Together they’ve brought us Kirin, a fashion label that is making it possible for us to feel like we are living the fantastic life of Peggy Gou, one printed shirt at a time.
The brand is dubbed as a “luxury brand”, however that’s obviously due to the high quality and premium pricing. However, the reality is Gou is bringing the worlds of fashion and club culture together – add some Gou spice to the mix and we’ve got Kirin.
In an interview with Vogue in 2019, Gou was asked about how she went about building the collection. She said, “There are a lot of cool brands out there already that I absolutely love. So, I just set about doing something that is really me. That’s why there are a lot of two-piece looks and a lot of prints.”
Talking to Vogue HK, Gou said, “Even though music and fashion have a connection, it’s not easy to compare the two because I don’t see composing music and making clothes as the same process.” She continued, “The one thing they do have in common is that I need to do a lot of research for both.”
“I need to listen to a lot of music to get inspiration for mixing and, similarly, to think about patterns, I need to do a lot of visual research.”

On the topic of gender, Gou says that the label is unisex. “We’re in the 21st century where nobody really cares about this. I mean, the gender label of clothing shouldn’t be an issue anymore. A lot of people ask if Kirin will come out with a menswear line and I’m like, ‘if this shirt comes in XL, that’s a men’s shirt.’”
“I like baggy clothes and I like shirts that are more menswear in cut so I think most of the collection’s fit is like the clothes I wear.
