South African ‘magic raps’ group PHFAT are hitting World Bar this May on their self-funded Lights Out Tour.

But what is ‘magic raps’? I’m glad you asked.

It seems South Africa’s biggest independent rap group have pioneered a genre of heavy electronic hip hop that is simultaneously grimy, charming and offensive. Favouring analogue over digital synths, their sound is mechanic and dark.

Their latest single ‘Lights Out’ tore up the South African charts – and it is only a matter of time before we catch on, especially since their entire albumHappiness Machinesis available for download for the very fair price of pay-what-you-want.

PHFAT will be playing at World Bar on Friday May 16, with tickets available at the door.
