2017 will be known as the year that the pizza wars took over Australia.

On Monday, Domino’s announced they would be discontinuing a range of pizzas, including the ol’ classic, the Margherita.

“It’s like any business, if pizzas don’t sell, they get deleted,” Domino’s chief executive Don Meij told news.com.au as the news tore through our shocked country.

Pizza Hut are using the news to double down on their love of the classic, announcing they will be giving away 10,000 free pizzas across Friday, Saturday and Sunday to the first ten customers to each store (across Australia) each day. To summarise: free pizza.

“Because we love the most classic pizza, we’re giving away 10,000 FREE Margherita pizzas this weekend from Friday to Sunday!”, the delicious corporation wrote on Facebook.

“To get your free pizza simply head to your local Pizza Hut and be one of the first 10 customers each day (Fri, Sat & Sun) to order your free Margherita, but remember you must be in the store to pick it up! True story!”

We know it’s a marketing ploy to drive crowds to their stores, and inspire write-ups such as these, but we are falling for it hook, line, and delicious Margherita.
