A man was arrested but later released after he allegedly sexually assaulted a woman at The Golden Sheaf bar in Sydney.
The alleged incident took place on Wednesday night, October 13th. As per News.com.au, NSW Police confirmed their officers were called to the popular Double Bay venue around 11:40pm after receiving reports a 20-year-old woman had been sexually assaulted.
“A crime scene was established and examined by specialist forensic police,” NSW Police explained in a statement. “A 23-year-old man, who had been detained by security, was arrested and taken to Waverley Police Station. He was later released pending further inquiries.”
The statement continued: “Officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command have commenced an investigation into the incident, which remains ongoing.”
The Golden Sheaf also discussed the alleged incident on their social media the following day. “We can confirm that New South Wales Police attended the Golden Sheaf last night in response to an incident that occurred,” they wrote on Instagram.
“We are committed to creating the safest possible environment for our guests and staff and we take incidents of this nature extremely seriously. We are reviewing our security protocols and procedures to ensure the continued safety of our guests and staff.

The alleged incident comes as pubs and clubs in Sydney only just reopened after months of strict COVID-19 lockdown.
