Puberty Blues‘ Christian Byers is set to star in the Montague Basement-produced Procne & Tereus as part of the 2014 Sydney Fringe Festival.

Procne & Tereusis the brutal Greek legend where King Tereus suffers the consequences of his own desire after he rapes and murders his wife’s sister. This contemporary re-working directed by Saro-Lusty Cavallari looks to be one “born out of fascination with how trauma and violence are represented in theatre, and by extension all art and media.”

The recently AFI-nominated Christian Byers will play the titular King Tereus and according to him, “It’s a play that stays with you.”

Procne & Tereus will run at the Tap Gallery in Darlinghurst from the 16th to the 20th of September. Tickets are $15-20 and available through the Sydney Fringe Festival website.
