As a reward for recording a 13th consecutive day without any local cases of COVID-19, the roadmap to Queensland reopening has been unveiled.

After commendably going almost two weeks without a local case, the state’s Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk decided the time was right today to reveal the plan to the public.

Palaszczuk released the Queensland COVID vaccine plan, outlining for the first time a clear plan for reopening Queensland. And it’s good news – tentatively – for Queenslanders, with some specific dates to work towards.

According to the plan, Queensland is set to hit the 70% fully vaccinated landmark on November 19th, one month from now. Once that landmark is met, people from a declared domestic hotspot such as NSW or Victoria would still be allowed to travel to Queensland by air, so long as they’re double jabbed and can provide a negative COVID test in the previous 72 hours.

Palaszczuk also revealed that these new measures would begin even earlier if that 70% target was met earlier than November 19th.

“After that, in December, they can come without having to quarantine in time for Christmas but they too will need to be fully vaccinated,” the Premier explained. “I think Queenslanders will acknowledge that that is a sensible and cautious approach to ensure that families can be reunited but the people coming into Queensland will have to be fully vaccinated.”

As it stands today, October 18th, Queensland has around 56% of people fully vaccinated, with 72.26 having received at least one dose. December 17th is when the state thinks the 80% target will be achieved, just before Christmas.
