Rebel Wilson has taken a swipe at SMH at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards over a news article that outed her same-sex relationship.

Wilson is dating fashion designer Ramona Agruma, however, the pair hadn’t publicly announced their relationship when she was contacted by a SMH journalist in regards to her same-sex relationship. Wilson claimed the journalist was threatening and gave her two days to respond to his queries.

In light of the information, Wilson made her relationship with Ramona Agruma public before the journalist could publish his story. When the story was published, the jornalist argued that Wilson had “opted to gazump the story.”

It caused wide-spread backlash, with thousands of people slamming the journalist for forcing Wilson to come out.

Speaking of the situation, Wilson said: “I just thought it was kind of grubby behaviour,” she  said. “Basically, with the situation where a journalist is threatening to out you, you’ve got to hurry, and some people we didn’t get a chance to tell before it came out publicly. And that’s not ideal.”

Wilson joked about the outing at the AACTA awards earlier this week.

“Some big things have happened in my life this year, big changes,” Wilson told the audience, inferring to her relationship with Agruma as well as her new born baby.
