Hyde Park will be temporarily transformed this weekend for Reclaim The Streets, the annual protest and festival challenging the issues currently facing Sydney, including the contentious lock-out laws.

The multi-stage event features an extensive lineup of DJs to celebrate the potential for non-threatening, public entertainment in our city.

In light of the growing list of closures of well-known nights spots (RIP The Lansdowne, Imperial, The Annandale, The Exchange), the event hopes to see the power return to the hands of the people.

“As property developers, casino owners, miners, and bankers fight over their own agendas, the interests of the average person take a backseat,” say organisers on the event’s Facebook Page.

Funding disability services, mental health service funding, pokies out of pubs, street art, mixed neighbourhoods and 24-hour trains are among the myriad of other public issues set to be advocated.

“We believe the city should be affordable, open and supportive of everyone who works, lives or plays here.”

Reclaim the streets this Sunday September 6 at Hyde Park from 1 pm. For more information visit the Facebook event.
