1.The First Record I Bought
The first record I bought was The Notorious B.I.G. – Life After Death, which was a double album. It was the album that got me into hip hop and eventually led me on the path to wanting to rap myself.
2.The Last Record I Bought
Ed Sheeran – X. His first album is one of my favourite releases in recent times and I was curious to see how he’d follow it up. I love some of his more soulful songs and I love that Van Morrison is one of his favourite artists, ’cause he is one of mine too.
3.The First Thing I Recorded
The first thing I recorded was in my bedroom on a program called eJay Hip Hop with a little handheld dynamic mic. It was hilarious then and I’m sure it would be even more hilarious now. So yes, I definitely cringe when I hear my first attempts at trying to rap.
4. The Last Thing I Recorded
The last thing I recorded was my album Don’t Look Down, which just came out. It was a long journey making the record with my close friend and producer aKidCalledJay, so it feels good to have it finally see the light of day! I was fortunate enough to work with some amazing artists like Paul Kelly, Paul Dempsey, 360 and more on it, so hopefully people will dig it.
5.The Record That Changed My Life
The record that changed my life was that first album I bought by Biggie. I was really spoilt growing up in a household that played all of this incredible music from the ’60s and ’70s (The Beatles, Van Morrison, et cetera) so hip hop became the first music that I had to seek out myself. And I think that was part of what made it feel special to me.
