Op shop enthusiasts rejoice, there’s a huge Red Cross pop-up sale coming to Sydney this weekend.

Red Cross will be heading to Paddington Town Hall for the sale to end all sales. There will be over 20,000 items ready for the purchase. If you know anything about the Paddington Red Cross store, you’ll know that you won’t be rummaging through stained and sweaty Kmart Activewear. Expect to snatch up a bunch of designer steals and vintage garments, just last week I picked up a Barbour x Adidas jacket that retailed for a cool grand.

This is an awesome opportunity to snag yourself a bargain and limit your fast fashion purchases. The fast fashion industry is killing our planet. In 2015, 100 billion items of clothing were churned out for 7 billion people. The waste has gotten so bad that brands have resorted to burning unsold clothing.

Over the past 30 years, fashion conglomerates have turned their production methods into an unsustainable beast. Relying on criminally paid labour, plastic-based fabrics and increased production speed. It’s a huge problem.

Next time you consider buying yourself a flimsy polyester number from H&M, consider taking your money to a charity store and investing in pre-loved goods. This sale is a good place to start, otherwise, you can check out our Sydney op shop guide here.
