As we say goodbye to summer, those wanting to head to regional Victoria for a nice holiday have been given a boost with the state’s latest round of travel vouchers.

The $30 million travel voucher scheme was announced last month and it’s finally being rolled out. Seniors are getting first dibs: the first 10,000 travel vouchers will be open to oldies from today, March 14th, with residents eligible if they have a valid Victorian Seniors Card or Seniors Business Discount Card. The Seniors travel voucher scheme will give a $200 reimbursement to anyone who spends at least $400 on paid accommodation, tours, and experiences.

The rest of Victoria will then be able to get their hands on a further 140,000 vouchers from next Wednesday, March 23rd. Offered on a first-come-first-served basis, holidaymakers will have to act fast if they fancy a cheaper getaway.

Successful recipients must spend a minimum of $400 and stay for at least two nights in paid accommodation to earn their reimbursement. That includes everything from hotels, motels, serviced apartments, caravan parks, camping sites, and private holiday rentals. It should also be noted that the $200 vouchers are only for travel between the limited window of April 8th until May 27th.

“The travel voucher program has helped encourage Victorians to explore the best of our state while supporting local businesses and jobs,” Acting Tourism Minister Mary-Anne Thomas shared about the travel initiative. She explained that the scheme would aid businesses and jobs growth in regional Victoria. “We want people to explore our great state and provide a boost to tourism businesses as the sector continues its recovery from the impact of the pandemic.”

If you want to try to get one of the $200 vouchers, simply apply via the official Victorian government website.
