‘The Batman’ star Robert Pattinson received some friendly advice from Batman alum, Christian Bale, and in a bathroom of all places.

“We met each other in the bathroom of the restaurant. I didn’t know he was there, but we were using the urinals next to each other… He told me, ‘It’s hard to go to the bathroom [while wearing the Batsuit].” That was his advice. As soon as you put on your costume… You can have a specific idea of how you want to play Batman, but… there’s nothing anyone can say to prepare [you for it].”

As the elder statesman among the three most recent live-action film Batman actors, this isn’t the first time Bale has given this advice.

Back in 2013, he gave the same words of wisdom to Ben Affleck, telling him, “The only thing I said to him was to make sure to [be able to] take a piss without having anyone help him, because it’s a little bit humiliating.” After Bale’s repeated efforts, his voice may have gotten through to the people making these non-functional suits.

‘The Batman’ director Matt Reeves caught wind of Bale’s advice from Pattinson and took it to heart, as the new Batsuit is self-relief friendly in order to give Pattinson more freedom with his bathroom tendencies. Reeves made sure this detail wasn’t overlooked, evident from his quote on the matter, “One of the big things that Rob actually talked to Christian Bale [about] was, ‘Just make sure you’re going to be able to relieve yourself,’ so that was actually part of what was important to build into [the suit].”

Future Batmen, direct your thanks to Mathew George Reeves. Maybe Bale’s legacy won’t be as a Dark Knight or a silent protector but simply as a person who wanted Batman to piss with freedom. It’s been quite a while since Robert Pattinson was cast as Batman and now the movie sits just around the corner as we patiently await.

‘The Batman’ releases March 4.
