Sacha Baron Cohen made a surprise appearance at a comedy club in Sydney on Saturday, in a performance that saw him revive the beloved character Ali G.
Sacha Baron Cohen is currently bunking down in Sydney with his wife Isla Fisher and their children. As The Telegraph report, the actor made a surprise performance during a set at Moore Park’s The Comedy Store on Saturday, June 5th.
No footage of the set has surfaced as attendees were reportedly asked to put their phones in locked pouches before entering.
The last time Ali G made a public appearance was when Sacha Baron Cohen accepted the Comedic Genius Award at the MTV Awards in an appearance that saw Borat, Ali G and a number of other alter-egos tried to gank the limelight.
Cohen first transformed into Borat to accept the award, “Thank you Prince Harry. I’m very excited to be on this brand new music television channel,” he said. “I’m very happy to be accepting this cup of gold teeth instead of Sacha Baron Cohen and will put it in our national museum along with other treasure we have confiscated from jews.”
Though his speech was thwarted by an appearance from Ali G. “We should be accepting this award not you. I was the original gangster. The OG,” said Ali G. A back and forth between the characters ensued, before Cohen stepped in to accept the award himself.
Last year, Sacha Baron Cohen reprised his beloved Borat character for a sequel, Borat Subsequent Moviefilm. He also appeared in The Trial of the Chicago 7.
