Julia-Rose Lewis, recipient of the 2014 Philip Parsons Fellowship for Emerging Playwrights, will have her first full-length play,Samson, play at the Belvoir.

Samson follows four children growing up in the middle of nowhere. Their lives plagued by boredom, decay and violence; Essie, Beth, Sid and Rabbit grieve over the death of a friend while grappling with their own existences. With a future that seems hopelessly out of grasp, the four find themselves imagining heaven and dreaming of hell.

This coming-of-age story is told by an exciting cast of fresh young talent, including Benjamin Creek, Ashleigh Cummings, Belinda Jombwe and Charles Wu. Directed by Kristine Landon-Smith, this disarming play presents a vastly contrasting array of truths: it is both funny and sad, brutal and gentle, young and old.

Samson will play at Belvoir from Thursday May 7 – Sunday May 31.
