First-person shooter Severed Steel has just been announced for PlayStation and it’s unlike anything you’ve seen before.
Between Call of Duty, DOOM and everything in between, it’s easy to get exhausted by the never-ending stream of new shooters. So allow us to introduce you to Severed Steel.
From a quick glimpse it mightn’t seem all that different, but there’s one unique difference at play here. The game’s protagonist, Steel, only has one arm.
According to Matt Larrabee, Founder & Game Designer at Greylock Studio, Steel loses her arm in an accident just before the start of the game. Turns out though, the giant corporation that is to blame for the whole ordeal wants nothing to do with it. Big shocker.
Naturally, Steel is pissed. Thus begins her reign of destruction as she seeks revenge while “liberating others crushed under the boot of EdenSys.”
Before ultimately finalising the character design, Larrabee claims he researched what it was like to be a gamer with a one arm, and only committed once he was confident he could realise Steel in an inclusive way.
The game will also include extra options to help accessibility like a custom button binding option that can be dictated by the player.

Watch the trailer for ‘Severed Steel’ below:
If the above announcement trailer is anything to go by, you can expect an incredibly frantic experience. Steel will be able to dive, wall run and flip about the levels as you she makes use of a slow-motion bullet time system.
The game world is also said to be fully destructible. Once you eventually unlock an arm cannon that can be mounted atop of Steel’s residual limb, you’ll be able to destroy the floor underneath enemies and chaos absolute chaos. Sounds pretty sweet to us.
It remains to be seen how seriously Greylock Studio will take it’s unique premise, but we’ll find out when Severed Steel launches later this year on PS4 and PC.
