Dealing with sex education and scandal, New Theatre will be bringing Evan Placey’s play Consensualto the Australian stage for the first time.

It is Diane’s job to teach high school students about sex and consent. But when former student Freddie shows up after six years, things get complicated. Did she groom him? Did he take advantage of her?

The play is full of moral ambiguities and imperfect characters.“It was this question – who is in the right? – that first attracted me to the play,” saidJohann Walraven, the play’s director. Written for teenagers, Consensual lets the audience make up their own minds.

Evan Placey’sConsensual will be performed at New Theatre in Newtown from Tuesday March 14 to Saturday April 15. Tickets are available here.
