The sister of Socceroo’s forward Awer Mabil was killed in a car crash overnight in South Australia while Mabil was playing in the Asian Cup quarter-finals.
Bor Mabil, 19, was killed when the car she was a passenger in crashed into a fence in the suburb of Andrews Farm just after midnight this morning.
The 19-year-old driver was driving with a suspended license and has been charged with dangerous driving causing death, as well as driving while disqualified.
Mabil, who was playing against the UAE in Australia’s loss overnight, was unaware of the incident until after the game.

Football Federal Australia released a statement late on Saturday morning, requesting the media respect the family’s privacy.
“FFA extends its deepest sympathies to Awer, the Mabil family, and Bor’s friends, at this difficult time,” said the statement.
“FFA is providing support to Awer, his teammates, and Socceroos staff in the United Arab Emirates.”
Members of the Mabil family also offered words to reporters in Adelaide, saying that “Bor was a great daughter and young woman with a great life ahead of her.”
The driver of the car has been refused bail and will appear in court on Thursday.
Mabil has been a key part of the Socceroos rebuild since the retirement of Tim Cahill last year and has had a massive impact on the team.
Mabil grew up in a refugee camp where he learned to play soccer, leading to his discovery and eventual signing to Adelaide United in 2012.
