It’s such a fine line between stupid and clever but we think the latest Spinal Tap news is definitely more of the latter.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, The fictional rock band Spinal Tap, immortalised in the 1984 mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, are reuniting with writer and director Rob Reiner on Wednesday, October 14th.
Guitarist Nigel Tufnel (Christopher Guest), bassist Derek Smalls (Harry Shearer), and singer David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean) will all be emerging from their retirement to turn it up to 11 once more.
It’s for a virtual fundraiser to help raise funds for Democrats in Pennsylvania, that state being a traditional swing state that is likely to be a deciding factor in next month’s vital US presidential election.
The reunion event will be hosted by comedian Patton Oswalt in what is sure to be one of the few redeeming moments of the dire year that has been 2020.
“Announcing today: ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ cast is reuniting to benefit the Democratic Party of Pennsylvania,” Reiner tweeted Thursday night. “Join me, Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer and Michael McKean on Oct.14 for a virtual reunion and help @PADems #TakeItToEleven.”
The announcement reads, “This one-time LIVE event is only streaming Wednesday, October 14th, and every dollar raised goes directly towards ending Trumpism by winning Pennsylvania.

It’s not the first time the band have reunited since the film’s release. “One of England’s loudest bands” last got back together in 2019 for the 35th anniversary of their mockumentary at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
Spinal Tap delivered a set packed with classics, alongside a special guest appearance by fellow English rocker Elvis Costello. Reiner, in character as director Marty DiBergi, also attended the post-screening, pre-performance Q&A.
Back in 1992, they also released a new album, Break Like the Wind, and performed a promotional concert tour for it.
