In great news for all you 90’s kids, Hocus Pocus is finally returning with a sequel film, due out next year!

Back in 1993, almost 30 years ago now, Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy played three cruel and sassy witches, the Sanderson sisters. According to The Hollywood Reporter, all three actors will reprise their roles in its sequel, Hocus Pocus 2, and I can’t be the only one ready to be put under their spell again.

The trio confirmed the exciting news on their own social medias. “Sistaaaahs! It’s been 300 years … But we’re BACK!,” tweeted Midler. “Yep. I’m ready. To run. Amok, amok, amok, amok,” Parker said on Instagram. “The people have spoken: I smell children … again,” Najimy wrote, really getting back into character.

The comedy wasn’t a roaring commercial success upon release but became a cult Halloween film in later years. The film followed the three Sanderson sisters, who were hanged during the Salem witch trials in 1693 and accidentally brought back to life centuries later. Oops.

In the sequel, they’re resurrected once more, this time in modern-day Salem. The Millennials who brought them back must then do everything they can to stop the crafty coven from eating kids and causing mischief.

Hocus Pocus 2 will be directed by Anne Fletcher, whose previous credits include Step Up and 27 Dresses which is quite the repertoire.

“I am so grateful to be able to play a part in bringing these witches back to life, and to be working with my friends at Disney again makes it all the more special,” she  said in a statement. “This is a movie for everyone, from the fans who grew up with the first film to the next generation of viewers, and I can’t wait to get started.”

I must admit, it’s going to be strange seeing Carrie Bradshaw flying around on a broomstick rather than sipping Martinis. But it would be hilarious to see Midler win an Oscar for it and complete her EGOT.

Hocus Pocus 2 is scheduled for release in late 2022 and will go straight to Disney+.
