In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Steve Martin says he might retire after Only Murders In The Building runs its course.

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Steve Martin claimed that there was a possibility Only Murders In The Building might be it for him.

While Martin acknowledged that the hit show – which picked up 17 Emmy nominations for Season 1 and has been renewed for a third instalment – had revamped his career, he was not one to reject the ‘natural end’ of things.

“We were very happy just doing the live show. There may be a natural end to that — somebody gets sick, somebody just wears out — but I wouldn’t do it without Marty [Short]. When this television show is done, I’m not going to seek others. I’m not going to seek other movies. I don’t want to do cameos. This is, weirdly, it.” Martin told THR.

While this is the first time he’s spoken with such a sense of finality, by virtue of his own character, Martin says, he always pushes back plans of retirement. Even now, Martin is gearing up to release his book Number One Is Walking: My Life in the Movies and Other Diversions. His life and career will also be the focus of a two-part documentary series, produced by A24, helmed by Morgan Neville and released on Apple TV+.

“My wife keeps saying, ‘You always say you’re going to retire and then you always come up with something,’ Martin told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’m really not interested in retiring. I’m not. But I would just work a little less. Maybe.”
