Survivor Australia host Jonathan LaPaglia has revealed that he – along with a number of other cast members – was struck down with COVID on the last day of filming season ten of Survivor.

LaPaglia told Daily Telegraph that throughout the season, food poisoning and Covid swept through the crew, but he was lucky to avoid it until the final day of filming.

The Australian host of Survivor told the publication that when COVID hit him, it hit him hard.

“I heard a lot of anecdotal stories, you know, people saying it was nothing but a little cold and it was done and dusted,” the former doctor said.

“But it kicked my arse. It knocked me out for about six weeks.”

LaPaglia added: “We’re working with an Australian budget and (ours) is pretty healthy, but when you compare it to the US – it’s paltry,” LaPaglia explains.

“So, we don’t have a lot of redundancy when it comes to crew.

“Once we lose people, I mean someone else needs to take up that job, and when you have at least 30 people go down, and then another 50 go down with food poisoning – it’s just tough. really tough.”

The upcoming season of Survivor Australia, titled Survivor: Heroes vs Villains will premiere on January 30th on Channel 10. Speaking of the upcoming show, LaPaglia said that there are more layers to the villains and heroes than one would assume.

“It’s a great theme – everyone understands it – heroes vs villains, good vs evil,” he asid.

“But what’s interesting is that there’s an overlap between the two categories.

“You actually need to have both characteristics to win in the end.

“And that’s certainly what we see as the season progresses.”

Last month, Channel 10 confirmed the full list of 24 cast membesr competing on Survivor Australia 2023, and amongst those names are ex AFL player David Zaharakis, CNN anchor Anjali Rao, Survivor: Brains V Brawn runner-up George Mladenov and Survivor fan favourite Shonee Fairfax.
