The full program for the 63rd Sydney Film Festival is here at last.
With more than 300 screenings of over 250 films from around the world, the 2016 Sydney Film Festival is set to be one of the biggest yet. Running across 12 days and nights at locations in the CBD, Inner West, northern Sydney and the city’s west, the festival covers genres from feature films to documentary, short film, animation, international cinema and more.
12 films will compete for the $60,000 Sydney Film Prize, including Goldstone, Cannes featureIt’s Only The End Of The Worldand the Robert Pattinson-starringThe Childhood Of A Leader.Goldstonehas already been announced as the festival’s Opening Night feature on Wednesday June 8 at the State Theatre.
Other highlight features include Abe Forsythe’sDown Under, a black comedy set during the aftermath of the Cronulla Riots;Blood Father, Mel Gibson’s first acting role since 2014; andMahanaby New Zealand directorLee Tamahori (Once Were Warriors,Die Another Day). Kevin Spacey and Michael Shannon will also star inElvis & Nixon, a bizarre comedy based on the true story of the meeting between Elvis Presley and President Richard Nixon at the White House.
The Sounds On Screen program is back for 2016, with music films includingMiss Sharon Jones!, alongside other film categories including Screen Black, Freak Me Out, Focus On Ireland, European Cinema: 10 Women Filmmakers To Watch, and the David Stratton-curated program of Martin Scorsese’s best films.
