A fortnightly event for Sydney artists to come together and create is gaining popularity for it’s unique approach to art workshops.

Art Somewhere is part of the many programs run through 107 in Redfern, and has quickly become a popular hangout for many Sydney artists. The concept is simple – every second Wednesday from 6-9 you can come, make friends, create, discuss, or just observe.

There’s a bar, and you can bring food too! It’s focused heavily on being a friendly place where you can meet other artists and hopefully collaborate.

Art Somewhere is a place you can just have a go.

There’s no pressure to create the same thing as everyone else, you can do your own thing, or let the workshop runners guide you!

When asked why the event was started, organiser Hannah Saunders said “I stopped making art for many years and found it very intimidating to start again. I wanted to create a place where people don’t need to worry about what materials they need to buy or about having any particular skills. Art workshops can be so great but also sometimes when everyone is working on the same thing it can be deflating to look over and see a “better” version of what you’ve done.”

With DJ’s, wine, and a bunch of fun professionals about to help out, guide you, or just chat with, it’s a great place to try something new.

You also get the opportunity to check out exhibitions and other works in the space, so there’s heaps to do!

Creative facilitator Annette Innis says “a lot of people come on their own and it’s a friendly communal atmosphere.”

Entry is $5 and the next event takes place tomorrow Wednesday 6-9pm at 107 Projects, 107 Redfern Street.
