The Shift Bar & Kitchen on Oxford Street in Darlinghurst has closed its doors.
The news was announced on Facebook over the weekend, marking the end of an era for one of the Sydney LGBTQI scene’s most popular nightspots.

The venue, more commonly known as The Midnight Shift, played host to a number of regular weekly events, including trivia nights, drag shows, poker competitions and more.
As per the owners’ post on social media, the upstairs Shift Club will continue to operate on weekends, and event info can be found on its Facebook page.
However, there’s no doubt the downstairs bar and restaurant was the ideal spot for people-watching on Oxford Street, and it’ll be a great loss to the streetscape of one of Sydney’s most vibrant and colourful suburbs.
