A bunch of iconic Sydney bars may be forced to close their rooftop bars due to noise complaints from neighbours.

Kings Cross Hotel in Kings Cross, The Royal Oak Hotel in Double Bay and The Marlborough in Newtown have all be targeted.

The long-standing venues have been ordered to stop trading in their outdoor areas by local government after new apartment buildings opened up next door.

Sydney City Council issued the ban after residents of the new apartment building, Omnia, complained about the noise. If the Kings Cross Hotel is going to be forced to close their terrace due to noise complaints; Omnia should be forced to close due to it being a fugly as hell building in an art deco paradise.

The Sunday Telegraph reported that Solotol, who own the Kings Cross Hotel, have enlisted lawyers and town planners to fight the trading band for its rooftop terrace.

“Our rights over the use of our wonderful old hotel cease to exist as soon as an apartment building opens next door,” shared CEO Justine Baker. Solotel is also at war with a neighbour of The Marlborough, who is petitioning to get the hotel’s courtyard closed due to noise.

The Royal Oak Hotel in Double Bay has also copped it. The pub has been forced to stop patrons drinking at tables outside unless they’re eating.

It’s baffling when people that choose to move to areas that are known for their nightlife are shocked by noise. Why are they so hell-bent on sucking the soul out of the city? If it’s silence they crave, why not invest in a lovely McMansion in Stanhope Gardens?
