In today’s episode of ‘Let’s see how this goes down’, absolute Newtown institution The Botany View have revealed the latest mural to grace the hotels rear wall. Never ones to shy away from a bit of a shirtfront, the owners have gone all in, paying homage to “the biggest gronk of the year so far”, Israel Folau.
Painted by Scott Marsh, the mural doesn’t hold back, depicting Israel Folau sitting on a milk crate panhandling for spare change. Of course, he’s doing so next to a snazzy yellow Lamborghini. No cash? No worries, painted Folau also carries an EFTPOS machine with him.
Folau sits behind a sign that reads “The righteous shall taketh from the punters for the divinity of ones property portfolio is most sacred in the eyes of the lord. Amen” The sign also provides Folau’s bank account details and the promise of free holy water with each donation.
In posting to socials, the pub commented “Scott Marsh has graced the back wall again for Israel Folau – The code hopping, money grabbing grub wins our award for the biggest gronk of the year so far.
Tonight between 5-6pm we’re putting on a Young Henrys Goodkeg. Pay what you feel for a schooner and we’ll donate the lot to the GoFundMe campaign of a singleton family who recently lost three of their children in a tragic house fire.”
A WAY better cause than putting money towards Israel Folau’s legal crusade against Rugby Australia which we’re all sick of hearing about unless, of course, it’s in mural form.
BVH invoked some Old Testament type rage from Christian groups around the Same Sex Marriage period, erecting a mural of George Pell and Tony Abbott. The mural was vandalised several times, as were others in the area including the iconic St Michael, resulting in some pretty heated exchanges beside the pub, with locals coming out in droves to defend the pub.
Including ya boy…
