Chris Dawson, the husband of missing Sydney woman Lynette Dawson and subject of popular true crime podcast Teacher’s Pet, has been arrested on Queensland’s Gold Coast this morning. The former Newtown Jets rugby league player is expected to be extradited to New South Wales immediately.
Police confirmed that on Wednesday, Dawson was taken arrested at his house in Coolum on the Gold Coast.
He is expected to be charged with Lynette Dawson’s murder. Mrs Dawson vanished from her home in Sydney’s Northern Beaches in January 1982. She was 33 years old. Days after her disappearance her husband Chris moved his schoolgirl lover into the family home.
Dawson’s disappearance has remained unsolved for 37 years. Two coronial inquests that have found that it was likely Dawson was responsible for the murder of his wife.
In 2015, New South Wales Police’s Strike Force Striven was established to reinvestigate the case. A forensic search of the home the Dawsons once shared in Bayview was undertaken. Police did not find Dawson’s remains “or any items of interest to the investigation.”
Dawson continues to maintain his innocence.
