Some have argued that the era of the Instagram aesthetic is over, but Japanese art collective teamLAB beg to differ.

If you use Instagram and know someone who has received a tax return then you’re probably aware of the work of teamLAB. The Tokyo-based creatives are a collective of artists, programmers, engineers, animators, mathematicians and architects who create realms for you to create fire content.

teamLab will be returning to Australia as part of the Melbourne International Arts Festival. They will be taking over Tolarno Galleries for a four-screen exhibition. The free show promises an experience that feels “like you’re floating in a giant wave made of light.”

“Four screens will take over Tolarno Galleries, showcasing the motion of hundreds of thousands of digital particles,” a description on the event page reveals. “These are then projected as cascades of shimmering luminescence. In other words, it’s going to feel like you’re floating in a giant wave made of light.”

The Reversible Rotation exhibition is set to open its doors this Saturday, October 5th. It’ll run through till Saturday, November 2nd. You can find all the relevant information about the experience below.
