The Block simply cannot catch a break. The show’s star Sarah-Jane Wilson has opened up about the challenges she faced while shooting.
From the very beginning, The Block 2022 has been embroiled in controversies and tragedies – and it doesn’t seem to be getting better. After accusations of producers rigging the show and actively endangering the contestants due to grueling schedules, one of the show’s stars has come forward to speak about what she thinks is the worst thing about filming.
During a chat with 9Now, Sarah-Jane Wilson claimed that she and her husband Tom Calleja had to face challenges due to ‘labour and material shortages’.
“There’s a lot of labour and material shortages, and that was really felt,” she told the channel. “We just couldn’t seem to get our hands on anything, and it was just horrific.”
This isn’t the first time contestants have called out supply issues on the show. While Wilson and Calleja were able to present a finished product despite the challenges, fellow contestants Sharon and Ankur were left with an unfinished shed because they could not get materials in time – or so their builder claimed.
“Straco did not do the brackets nor supply the bracket, even if we were to do it. I was chasing this up [almost] hourly when I realised they weren’t doing it.” Liam said in a Facebook post after the couple yet again accused him of being lazy.
Aside from the supply issues, however, this season of The Block has been riddled with one controversy after another.

More recently, sources close to the show claimed that the gruelling hours of shooting were taking a toll on the contestants, forcing them to micro-sleep while on the road. Despite raising concerns about this to the production team, nothing was done until the network finally stepped in and shaped the team up.
Furthermore, an unnamed contestant recently also claimed that the show was rigged. Speaking to So Dramatic!, the contestant claimed that the production team manipulated scores to amp up the drama and tension – they only realized after noticing that the judges’ reviews of the houses did not reflect in the scores.
