The Block contestants Tom and Sarah-Jane have labeled a fake GoFundMe page that was set up in their name ‘disgraceful’.
The page was set up to supposedly raise money for the couple, however, the reality stars have confirmed that they have nothing to do with it.
The fundraiser had a goal of $1,586,670 and was set up after Tom and Sarah-Jane discovered they’d made just $20,000 for their work on The Block. The premise of the reality show is for couples or pairs to renovate a house and then sell it for a profit. Channel 9 set a reserve price, and whatever the property sells for over the reserve, the contestants get to keep. The pair whose house sells for the most, get an additional $100,000 and the title of The Block winner.
This year the reserve was $4,080,000, and the results were interesting, to say the least. The winners, Omar and Oz, came out well ahead of the other couples and walked away with $1,686,666.66, including their $100,000 in prize money for winning.
The next closest house in price was Rachel and Ryans, which sold for $4.2 million – over $1.4 million less, meaning they made a $120,000 profit. However, their house didn’t sell at auction and was bought after.
Meanwhile, Tom and Sarah-Jane’s house sold for $4,100,000.99, giving them a take home figure of $20,000.99. Ankur and Sharon and Dylan and Jenny’s houses didn’t sell at auction, and are still on the market.
The scam fundraiser’s description read: “Tom and SJ deserve a lot more for the efforts they put into building their house on The Block.
