Since its grand re-opening over Mardi Gras weekend, The Imperial Hotel in Erskineville has once again become one of the queer communities favourite venues in Sydney. Now with the unveiling of their newly renovated top story, they’re set to build that popularity.

Imperial UP! is described as an Italian trattoria with “echoes of Studio 54”. So really it just sounds like a place where you can eat spaghetti and have a disco –  two things I am all about. It promises good vibes, good drinks, and great food being delivered to a massive 200 person courtyard.

UP! is the final stage of the three part renovation process the hotel has undergone. It follows a revamped main floor which now boasts a massive bistro and drag performances 7 nights a week. They also revamped the basement floor which is now booked out to many of Sydney’s favourite queer parties every weekend.

Imperial trattoria

Though the past several years have seen The Imperial struggle, the new look and team behind it have given the brand an incredible revival, giving queer culture a home in the inner-west again. The pub that launched Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert is back at the top of it’s game.

Support from the community has been strong since the reopening with events such as Heaps Gay, Girlthing, and Honcho Disko all choosing to choose the refurbished venue as their usual home. It has also become a venue of choice for many international touring drag queens.

There are plans for the venue to eventually include a same-sex wedding chapel by early 2019. Ideal when you consider you wouldn’t even have to travel for a quality reception venue after!

Imperial UP! is open to the public 7 nights a week from today. It will also be open from 11:30am during the weekend for anyone who wants a quality Italian style brunch complete with mimosas.
