The first Karate Kid film is — without a shred of hyperbole — the greatest piece of art ever created. The following two are pretty great too, and any subsequent Karate Kid films you may list simply didn’t happen, blahblahblahblah notlisteningnotlistening!

The original trilogy crane-kicked its way into the hearts of generations of kids, and if you didn’t watch these films as a child then immediately start unleashing karate moves on your siblings, fuelled by excitement and Cottee’s, then oops, you forgot to have a childhood. Plus, Elisabeth Shue!

The unfortunately-named YouTube Red (they must know, right?) have commissioned a ten-part TV series named Cobra Kai, which continues the exploits of Daniel-san and Johnny (Put him in a body-bag! Sweep the leg!) Lawrence, as they struggle with middle age.

The film is set thirty-four years after the epic 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament, and both Ralph Macchio and William Zabka will reprise their roles.

The new series finds Daniel selling used cars, and Johnny as an alcoholic trying to reclaim his former glory by reopening the Cobra Kai. As you may remember, the Cobra Kai teaches a dishonourable style of karate, with leg-sweeps and body bags.

Cobra Kai premieres on May 2 on YouTube Red, and it looks great. Now, paint the fence!
