In an announcement that is sure to blow minds from here to Zion, Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures have confirmed that there will be a fourth instalment to the genre defining sci-fi saga, The Matrix. Before fans of the original films recoil in fear, behold: The Matrix 4 is set to feature key ingredients Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss.

Reeves and Moss will be reprising their roles as Neo and Trinity respectively, resulting in a mass sigh of relief from the general movie going public. Adding even more reason to get genuinely thrilled for the instalment is the fact original Architect of the series Lana Wachowski will once again be in the writer / director seat.

The news came via Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich, who confirmed “We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana. Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”

It’s understood there has been some effort over the last few years to start production on The Matrix four. However, after Reeves was elevated to the status of social God in recent months, it’s believed the studios decided to carpe the hell out of that diem.

Already The Matrix series boasts titles “The Matrix,” “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions”, and a collective box office title of $1.6 billion. Wachowsk and sister Lily wrote and directed all three chapters of the epic.

Wachowski commented on the announcement, ““Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”

As per Variety, the film is pencilled in for a 2020 release which seems like enough time to calm ourselves enough to sit through it.
