The Simpsons’ annual ‘Treehouse of Horror’ Halloween specials have seen our fave yellow family deal with everything from aliens Kang and Kodos to Mr Burns in vampire form – but this year’s episode will centre around something far more terrifying – US president Donald Trump.

According to Variety, who caught a sneak peek at the 31st instalment, the forthcoming Treehouse of Horror XXXI’ episode will see Homer heading to the voting booths, where he seems to be decided on everything except who to vote for as the next US president.

The politically-savvy Lisa then appears – wearing a mask – to ask Homer, “How can you forget everything that’s happened the last four years?” before a whole bunch of Donald Trump’s missteps (to put it lightly) as president begin scrolling across the screen.

These include:

It’s not the first time Trump has been referenced in The Simpsons. In the season 11 episode ‘Bart to the Future’, they eerily predicted Trump’s presidency in a scene where Lisa has been elected as president and makes the offhand comment, “We inherited quite the budget crunch from President Trump.”

Considering the episode aired in 2000, we’d say that’s a pretty weird coincidence. In fact, one week after Trump was elected, the recurring chalkboard gag read, “Being right sucks.”

Among other former US presidents to have made an appearance in the series include Bill Clinton, Gerald Ford, Richard Nixon, George H. W. Bush, and Barack Obama.

The ‘Treehouse of Horror XXXI’ episode of The Simpsons airs in the US on Sunday, October 18th and also includes parodies of Pixar, Toy Story, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Netflix series Russian Doll.
