As per The Hollywood Reporter, The Twilight Zone reboot is officially being cancelled after two seasons and twenty episodes.
The show was executive produced by Jordan Peele, yes the Jordan Peele of Key & Peele hilarity and Netflix’s Big Mouth, alongside Simon Kinberg.
Sources allege that Peele and Kinberg’s companies were both ready to leave behind the series despite their distributors being keen to continue on. The cancellation news also comes in around the same time of the announcement that the show’s platform, CBS All Access is set to rebrand as Paramount+.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the news of The Twilight Zone revival first broke in 2017.
It was announced that the show would be produced in individual episodic anthologies, much like Netflix’s Black Mirror, for example.
The intention was also to pick up where the original creator, Rod Serling, left off. But this time with a modern reimagining of the original.
Signifying a moment of closure for the reboot’s production, reps for Peele and Kinberg’s companies have issued a joint statement.
They began, ”We greatly enjoyed our time working on The Twilight Zone – particularly when the real world around us often felt more and more like another dimension. We cherished the opportunity to collaborate with so many talented writers, actors and crew members.”
Their reps continued, “After 20 unique episodes, we have told the stories that we wanted to tell, and CBS All Access was gracious in their understanding of our decision. It was an honor and a privilege to bring audiences a modern re-imagining of Rod Serling’s iconic creation.”
Further to the cancellation, Paramount+ head of programming Julia McNamara also put forward a statement. McNamara said, ”Jordan Peele, Simon Kinberg and the entire production team truly reimagined The Twilight Zone for the modern age.”
McNamara continued, “They upheld the classic series’ legacy of socially conscious storytelling and pushed today’s viewers to explore all new dimensions of thought-provoking and topical themes that we hope will resonate with audiences for years to come.”
