Did you know that The Simpsons is still going? Did you know that it’s on its remarkable 33rd season? That’s great news for Yeardley Smith, the voice behind Lisa.

The iconic voice actress appeared on The Movie Dweeb YouTube channel this week and discussed everything Springfield. And she has no doubts about the beloved animation series continuing for a lot longer. “We had a pickup for 33 and 34, but I feel like we would be given a pretty big heads-up for the last season because, at the very least, Disney who bought Fox, all but Fox News and Fox Sports, part of the reason they bought it was for The Simpsons,” Smith said.

She added that any last season would undoubtedly come with a lot of fanfare: “Also, if it was the last season, I think they would want to capitalise on that and make bazillions on advertising.”

Nor is Smith worried about losing the comfortable job she’s held for over three decades now due to “how much content streaming services need… If somebody is literally going to binge your whole series in a weekend, you’re f*cked! How do you keep that voracious appetite fed? It’s a huge thing.”

It’s been almost 15 years since The Simpsons Movie hit the big screen and basically every year since has been filled with rumours of a sequel. It’s something that Smith believes will happen eventually and she has a good idea for it. “I do really believe that there will be a number two, and my pitch is that it should be a Christmas movie, so that it has annual relevance for the rest of time,” she said.

It’s been a while since we last had a truly classic festive movie – I’d go back as far as Elf in 2003 – so a Simpsons-themed Christmas movie might be a wise move.
