The iconic Penny Black venue in Melbourne has seen a lot of changes, but its newest iteration has the potential to be the best so far.

The Brunswick spot is about to be become NONO, a music, party and pizza palace that should have drunken revellers soon saying YESYES (sorry).

The venture’s in good hands, with NONO being the idea of the people behind hospo favourites Welcome to Thornbury, Welcome to Brunswick and Belles Hot Chicken.

And to celebrate NONO’s recent opening, the venue will be giving away 420 free pizzas and giving out $4.20 house pints and shots all next weekend in homage to its famous street number.

After that, NONO will feature a rotating cast of resident and guest DJs each night, including names like Anyo Castro, Casey Leaver and Claire Knight. And with a huge outdoor garden bar and capacity for 950 people, it should be a prime Inner Melbourne spot this summer.

If live music isn’t your thing, NONO will also host weekly Drag Bingo sessions every Thursday evening (from December 15th), featuring local duo Bettie Rose and Rubi Taboo.

“420 Sydney Road has hosted some of Brunswick’s biggest parties and bands over its 14-year history. We’re pumped to keep the legacy alive breathing new life into the original post office building,” Managing Director of Belles Hot Chicken, Welcome to Thornbury and Welcome to Brunswick, Joss Jenner-Leuthart, said.

“NONO is our take on no-fuss food, drinks and good tunes and entertainment ’til the wee hours. It’s an unassuming, unpolished and super unpretentious place to let your hair down and worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.”
