We’re halfway through the new AFL season and one iconic Melbourne pub is giving everyone an extra reason to grab a drink while watching the footy.

The Sarah Sands Hotel, situated right at the corner of Sydney Road and Brunswick Road, was established in 1854 and revived last year. And the venue has found an excellent way to entice punters.

Thanks to the Round for Round initiative, the pub will double your bar tab. Literally double it. If you put down $50, you’ll get a cool $100 to spend. There’s a maximum tab of $150 per customer, but that’s a massive $300 to lay down on alcohol.

There’s 9 AFL games on this weekend from Thursday to Sunday, with 9 rounds remaining in the regular season – that’s a lot of footy and a lot of double bar tabs.

Make sure you get to the Sarah Sands Hotel early because your tab must be set up before first bounce. And if you’re not a big drinker, luckily the tab can also be spent on food.

The menu has classic pub fare like chicken parmas – perfect for watching the AFL – as well as interesting dishes like roasted pumpkin arancini and salt and pepper squid (you can check out the full food and drink menu here).

Just note that no cash refunds are on offer if you don’t manage to finish the entire bar tab on the day it’s set, so it might be wise to gather as many friends as you can get.
