This week has been every Spider-Man fan’s dream. Not only is the highly anticipated Spider-Man: No Way Home just around the corner, Sony Pictures dropped a trailer for the sequel to their 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse.

The sequel is titled Spider-Man: Across the Spider-verse (Part One). You read right: Part one.

Though Sony’s other attempts at Marvel properties have been a mixed bag, The 2018 film was a surprise hit. The film won Best Animated Feature Film at The Academy Awards and introduced audiences to the idea of many different Spider-People from different universes.

One notable Spider-Man who didn’t make the cut was the Marvel Cinematic Universe version as played by Tom Holland. Speaking to Sci-Fi Wire with No Way Home co-stars Zendaya (MJ) and Jacob Batalon (Ned), Holland revealed he is more than enthusiastic to join his spider counterpart Miles Morales in an animated adventure.

“I’m just waiting for the phone call” Holland suggested and claimed that “Amy [Pascal] actually asked me on the set of this movie and no one has got back to me.” “I wanna be in them” he reiterated, with his co-stars seconding his enthusiasm, praising the series and begging Sony to “let [them] know.”

Spider-Verse producer Christopher Miller has since taken to Twitter to respond to the interview, posting a gif of a monkey on the phone and the caption “Call me”.

However, considering the red-herrings and sneaky marketing regarding No Way Home, it’s not far-fetched to assume that the No Way Home cast have already recorded their voices for Across the Spider-Verse and are toying with our nerd hearts.

But, it is likely we will have to wait until they roll out the red carpet for Spider-Verse to find out.

Spider-Man: No Way Home hits screens this Thursday the 16th while Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) will swing in on October 7th of 2022.
