These days, it’s slightly surprising when a reality star doesn’t join OnlyFans. Exhibit A: MAFS’ Olivia Frazer and Jessika Powers.

However, when TV presenter and Aussie icon Tony Armstrong joined the platform last year, the move was certainly out of left field.

Now, Armstrong has revealed why he joined OnlyFans, and the reason is surprisingly heartwarming. Armstrong – who is unofficially celebrated as somewhat of a dreamboat in Australia, told News.com.au that joining the platform was a tactic to trick his subscribers.

“Once they got into the OnlyFans, they would realise a subscription was for this charity … It was just photos of me with cups of tea or with a book or something. We ended up getting quite a few subscriptions,” he said.

However, Armstrong told the publication that his bosses at ABC weren’t impressed with his new side hustle.

“I wouldn’t say I got in trouble … I had ‘a chat,” he said.

Earlier this year, much of the Australian public was campaigning for Armstrong to become this year’s suitor on ‘The Bachelor’. But, the news presenter and former AFL star recently revealed that he feels slightly “uncomfortable” about all the attention he receives.

“It’s so lovely for people to be so complimentary, like obviously, that’s really nice [but] I definitely get a bit uncomfortable,” Armstrong told Yahoo Lifestyle.

He added, “Sometimes it gets, full-on might be the wrong word, but it can be a lot at times.”

In the same interview, the 32-year old said that he “hated” walking the Logies red carpet.

“It was very overwhelming. Being nominated for an award, people wanted to talk to me and stuff and I was pretty keen to just walk through, but there was going to be none of that.” Regardless of his trepidation about the carpet, Armstrong took home the Logie Award for Most Popular New Talent this year.
