It’s easy to get fooled on April Fools’ Day but not even the most ardent fan would fall for a quote from Martin Scorsese praising a Marvel movie.
Not poor Tyrese Gibson though. The singer and actor plays Simon Stroud in Morbius, so when he saw a gushing quote from Scorsese circulating online, he couldn’t have been happier.
“I was aghast to find out it was based on a comic book. This is the truest height of cinema and even I cannot top it. A wise man admits when he is wrong and I was wrong, I apologise to all comic book movies,” the fake quote from Scorsese read.
Tyrese shared a screenshot of the quote on his Instagram. “Wow wow wow I can’t believe what just happened whoa……. Cheers and hats off to you @daniel espinosa this is so amazing King! This is the KING of KINGS of cinema Martin Scorsese this is huge,” he captioned the post.
C’mon Tyrese, “the truest height of comic book movies”? Scorsese’s the man who infamously compared comic book movies to theme parks after all.

Tyrese has now unsurprisingly deleted his Instagram post and he’d do well to pay more attention to the reviews Morbius is currently receiving.
“If it’s not the worst of these films, it’s certainly the most anemic – and even die-hard fans are apt to feel completely drained by all of it,” Rolling Stone wrote of the Jared Leto movie.
“It really is an amazingly pointless and dumb film… Let’s hope the extended Spider-man universe extends far enough to include something more interesting than this,” The Guardian said.
“I have to hope that sooner or later the bubble will burst, and a film as insulting to audience appetites and intelligence as this will be some sort of larger lesson for Hollywood,” Little White Lies scoffed.
