Following on from news that the upcoming UFC 243, set in Melbourne, will potentially be the largest UFC fight of all time, the MMA organisation has taken particular focus on our country. Today, UFC have opened applications for their training scholarship, available to all those in the APAC region and yup, that includes Australia.
The scholarship will take the shape of a 4-week intensive training program, putting successful applications shoulder to shoulder, or perhaps more accurately, fist to face, with some of the world’s toughest, and most talented, fighters.
The training will be facilitated by The UFC Performance Institute team in Shanghai, which is headed by UFC Hall-Of-Famer and iconic fighter Forrest Griffin.
Among other things, the program will have successful applications homing in on their striking, grappling and sparring practices as well as strength and conditioning. They’ll also get schooled in the best fuel to put in their body, receive the latest information in sports science, physical therapy and rehabilitation. So, obviously, this will not be some cushy summer camp vacation.
The program will also cover flights and accommodation.
To make the cut, you must be over 18 years of age, with a minimum of 3 professional MMA fights on your card, so this isn’t for weekend warriors. You must be in good health, with no arrest warrants. Submissions are open for both men and women of all weight classes.
Applications close on August 15th with a winner being announced by August 19th.
To get a rough idea of what the scholarship can do for your MMA career, look no further than the inaugural winner of the training scholarship, Linda Darrow from Indonesia.
