Season three of You dropped on Netflix last week and it quickly shot to the number one most-watched show, knocking the Phenomenon that is Squid Game off its perch. The success of You has to be partly attributed to the amazing acting Victoria Pedretti delivers as psychopath murderer, wife and mum, Love Quinn.
While Pedretti’s role in You certainly is polarising, she’s revealed that she originally auditioned to play the part of Guinevere Beck, before she was headhunted for the role of Love Quinn.
If you’re familiar with the addictive series, Guinevere Beck was one of the main characters in season one of You and was played by actress Elizabeth Lail. The season saw You‘s main character Joe Goldberg, played by Penn Badgeley, become obsessed with Beck.
“I auditioned for Beck during my first time in L.A. while I was showcasing with my university,” Pedretti told Byrdie. “I got pretty far in the audition process. It was the furthest I had ever gotten in an audition process. But I didn’t really think about it after that. Then, the show came out on Lifetime.”
After learning that she didn’t get the part of Beck, Pedretti went on to star in her first major TV role as Nell Crain in 2018’s The Haunting of Hill House. Her performance in the series was met with rave reviews and helped her make a name for herself as an actor.
It was actually this role that caused You showrunners to reach out to her and offer her the role of Love Quinn.
“I was reached out to by [You showrunners] Greg Berlanti and Sera Gamble about You because of the work they saw me do on Hill House,” Pedretti said. “I haven’t even talked to them about whether or not they remember me auditioning for Beck, to be honest. But we started having conversations about the show. I was able to meet with Penn Badgley, and the rest is history.”
