If you’re planning a getaway, now’s your chance. Virgin Australia is offering flights for as low as $55 as part of their Boxing Day deals.
If you’re planning a getaway soon, you might want to hold on before you book tickets. Starting Boxing Day through December 29th, Virgin Australia is going to be offering flights for as low as $55.
Ahead of Boxing Day this year, the airline announced that it would offer around 800,000 discounted fares for both international and domestic flights. People can book tickets for selected dates from February to September 2023 for destinations like Gold Coast, Melbourne, Tokyo, Bali and more – including a $55 one-way flight from Sydney to Byron Bay.
In a statement, Velocity Frequent Flyer chief executive Nick Rohrlach said: “It’s been a privilege to support millions of Australians in stretching their dollar further this year, both with the Velocity program’s new partnerships and member innovations, and as an airline with more choice and better value airfares.”
Rohrlach went on to add that “travel and connecting with loved ones remains a high priority and we’re proud of what we’ve been able to deliver travellers who have less discretionary spend right now.”
Now is probably a good time to book those Bali tickets, eh? Although, a few weeks ago, Aussies would have thought twice about it, thanks to a new sex law introduced in Indonesia.
According to the new law, premarital sex is now a crime punishable by a prison sentence and fine in the predominantly Muslim nation of Indonesia. Reports of said premarital trysts, however, would have to be made by a close relative or friend of the couple.

Since the law applied to tourists and citizens alike, uproar was expected from the former, who claimed to stay away from the country. Indonesia’s Deputy Law and Human Rights Minister Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej, however, later confirmed that the law would not apply to tourists: “I want to emphasise for foreign tourists, please come to Indonesia because you will not be charged with this article.”
Wayan Koster, Governor of Bali, also confirmed that the destination would not be changing their policies to check the marital status of tourists, and would be ‘comfortable and safe’ to visit ‘as usual’.
