It’s been way too long since a Wes Anderson film has graced the silver screen.
When the original film artwork released on social media in February 2020, Wes Anderson devotees all around the world jumped for joy at the news that the Wes gang would be reuniting on screen once again.
Unfortunately, we all know how the story goes. The following month, the world would descend into a zombie apocalypse AKA COVID-19 pandemic and the film’s release would go from known to unknown.
Originally slated to release in July of 2020 at the Cannes Film Festival no less, since then we’ve been waiting to find out if the movie would ever release – secretly hoping that it’d land on a streaming platform but also hoping that it would hold off for a proper cinema release a la buttery popcorn and reclining seats.
And now to prove that there is a god, we’ve just received the official release date for The French Dispatch.
The film gets the original crew back together featuring Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Bill Murray, and Jason Schwartzman, alongside a cast of new Anderson inductees including Benicio del Toro, Frances McDormand, Elisabeth Moss, Jeffrey Wright, and of course, Timothée Chalamet.
This year, The French Dispatch is expected to debut at this year’s Cannes Film Festival in July, followed by The New York Film Festival which kicks off in September and marks Anderson’s tenth feature film, adding to his decorated track record of films including The Royal Tenenbaums, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Fantastic Mr. Fox and more.
If all goes to plan, the film is due to release in cinemas for the general public this year on October 22nd. To make sure you stay up to date with any and all Wes Anderson related news, make sure to follow the Film & TV Observer.
