It’s been quite a few years but Wayne and Garth from Wayne’s World are back in 2021… for a big Super Bowl ad that is.

As much as some like to argue that the Super Bowl is about the football, we all know that the annual event is really all about the many – MANY – ads and the Half-Time shows.

One favourite schtick companies love to do at the Super Bowl is to make an ad and disguise it like a reboot of some beloved pop-culture property. Case in point: Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Honda.

For the 2021 edition of the event, we’re getting another one of these fake reboots and this time it’s of none other than Wayne’s World.

Mike Myers and Dana Carvey are back in their old costumes and are still making the same jokes as they were 30 years ago – save for an obligatory dig at the horror show that was 2020.

Except that everyone is evidently much older and the jokes are about UberEats, which is what this ad is for.

It’s actually kind of interesting and a little ironic to see Wayne and Garth unsubtly telling everyone to watch the Super Bowl because they’re going to be in big money ad for some “unnamed food delivery service” given how the pair poked fun at product placement in the 1992 Wayne’s World film.

It’s like people only do things to get paid. And that’s, like, really sad.

But hey, it’s nice to reminisce about those nicer times after the year we’ve had and there’s no better way of doing it than getting Wayne and Garth to do their schtick in 2021.

If Rob Lowe and Tia Carrere rock up in the Super Bowl ad then that’s almost enough to look past the fact that Wayne and Garth have indeed bowed to a sponsor. Excellent!
